IN THIS PAPER, TWO SENSOR SYSTEMS ARE INTRODUCED TO BE USED FOR DIAGNOSING THE WORKPIECE AND GRINDING WHEEL WEAR. THE MEASURING PRINCIPLE OF A MICROMAGNETIC ANALYZER FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF THE SURFACE INTEGRITY STATE IS EXPLAINED. THE BARKHAUSEN-NOISE AMPLITUDE AS THE ESSENTIAL INVESTIGATED QUANTITY HAS PROVED TO BE SENSITIVE TO RESIDUAL STRESSES. ANOTHER POSSIBILITY TO IMPROVE THE PROCESS QUALITY IS THE INTEGRATION OF AN OPTICAL SENSOR SYSTEM.
