THIS PAPER DESCRIBES STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING SAFE PROCESSES ON A HIGH-PERFORMANCE LEVEL OF CD PROFILE GRINDING OF NICKEL-BASED SUPERALLOYS. SINCE THESE MATERIALS ARE USED MAINLY IN TURBINE MANUFACTURE, THERE ARE VERY HIGH DEMANDS ON THE QUALITY OF THE WORKPIECE. TO ENSURE A CONSTANT WORKPIECE QUALITY, THE PROCESS AND QUALITY QUANTITIES HAVE TO BE MEASURED DURING OR NEAR THE PROCESS. BY MODELING THE GRINDING PROCESS WITH A LEARNING NEURAL NETWORK OR WITH FEM, IT IS POSSIBLE TO CALCULATE THE ACHIEVABLE QUALITY OF THE WORKPIECES BEFORE THE GRINDING PROCESS IS STARTED.
