In order to survive and be profitable in this era of intense competition for every sales dollar, manufacturing operations must constantly strive to run at the best efficiency and highest productivity rates possible. Using NC machines, either singly or grouped into operating cells, the many operational steps that comprise a machining job greatly complicate the issue of determining the most efficient or most productive condition set for each machine or group of machines. In this paper, concepts and methods that can be utilized to model multiple-step machining operations will be discussed.
