Dressing tools, made of synthetic diamonds, are relatively new and its performance has not been extensively studied, mainly regarding temperature. Diamond is the hardest industrial material known, chemically stable and abrasive resistant but, when subjected to moderate temperatures, it can transform back into graphite. Diamonds on dressing tools are required to wear at a minimum rate, keeping their shape and properties at conditions involving high temperatures. This work develops a model of temperature distribution on dressing tools, using the 3D fundamental equation of heat conduction. Finite element method (FEM) is also applied. The model will help designers to improve the design of dressing tools.
