REPLACEMENTS FOR CONVENTIONAL CLEANING SOLVENTS INCLUDE AQUEOUS AND SEMI-AQUEOUS MATERIALS. AQUEOUS CLEANERS GENERALLY ARE DEFINED AS POLAR, WATER-BASED CHEMICALS BASED ON INORGANIC COMPONENTS. SEMI-AQUEOUS MATERIALS ARE NONFLAMMABLE, NONCHLORINATED HYDROCARBONS HAVING NONPOLAR ORGANIC PROPERTIES. THESE MATERIALS ARE RINSED IN WATER, THUS DERIVING THE TERM SEMI-AQUEOUS. THIS PAPER EXPLORES THE PROCESS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS OF THESE TWO CHEMISTRIES, AND EXPLAINS THE METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE BEST CLEANING SYSTEM.
