THE PAPER DESCRIBES A DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM FOR COMPUTER VISION, WHICH IS BASED ON A MULTIPROCESSOR ARCHITECTURE ALREADY IN USE. A DEDICATED HARDWARE FRONT END HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR IMAGE ACQUISITION AND PREPROCESSING AND SEGMENTATION. IS USES BOTH EDGE CONTOURS AND SHAPE, AND 3D EDGE SEGMENT RECONSTRUCTION. THE HARDWARE/SOFTWARE MODULARITY AND THE COMPUTATIONAL POWER OF THE MULTIPROCESSOR SYSTEM ADDRESS SUCCESSFULLY THE HIGHER LEVEL OF SCENE INTERPRETATION AS OBJECT RECOGNITION AND LOCALIZATION. A FEW EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED IN ROBOT MANIPULATION AND 3-D SCENE RECOGNITION.
