THIS PAPER PRESENTS A SURVEY OF CURRENT LASER- ROBOT SYSTEMS FOR SHEET METAL WELDING AND CUTTING. THERE ARE FIVE TYPES OF LASER-ROBOT SYSTEMS. THEIR APPLICATION FIELDS, DIFFERENCES, AND LIMITATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. TWO KINDS OF LASER BEAM TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS, THE BEAM GUIDANCE SYSTEM AND THE BEAM DELIVERY SYSTEM, SUPPLY THE MEANS TO CONNECT THE LASERS AND THE INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS. LASER PROCESSING IMPOSES SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS ON ROBOT PERFORMANCES AND WORKPIECE SPECTRA. LASER-ROBOT PROCESS CONTROL IS NEEDED TO OPTIMIZE THE WELDING AND CUTTING PROCESSES. WITH THE HIGH-POWER LASERS AND THE PERFECT BEAM TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS, THE LASER-ROBOT SYSTEMS FINDS MORE APPLICATIONS IN WELDING AND CUTTING.
