MANY CURRENT OPTICAL FLOW ALGORITHMS ARE NOT SUITED FOR PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS SUCH AS MOTION ANALYSIS, TIME-TO-CONTACT, OR REAL-TIME TRACKING BECAUSE THEY EITHER REQUIRE MASSIVELY PARALLEL SUPERCOMPUTERS OR HIGHLY SPECIALIZED HARDWARE. A MODIFICATION TO THIS TYPE OF ALGORITHM THAT RUNS IN REAL-TIME ON STANDARD COMPUTING HARDWARE AND PRODUCES REMARKABLY ACCURATE TIME-TO-CONTACT CALCULATIONS IS DESCRIBED. PERFORMANCE ON STANDARD DESKTOP PERSONAL COMPUTERS IS ALSO DISCUSSED.
