THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE PROBLEM OF SCHEDULING SINGLE-GLRIPPER GANTRY ROBOTS IN A TIGHTLY-COUPLED AUTOMATED SERIAL PRODUCTION LINE WITH DETERMINISTIC PROCESSING TIME. AN OPTIMAL SCHEDULE IS PRESENTED FIRST BY ANALYZING THE CYCLE TIME FORMULA FOR TWO- AND THREE-WORKSTATION (m=2, AND 3) PRODUCTION LINES. THEN THE RESULT IS EXTENDED TO THE PROBLEM OF SCHEDULING A PRODUCTION LINE WITH m>3 WORKSTATIONS AND AN OPTIMAL SCHEDULE IS DEVELOPED. THIS STUDY PROVIDED VALUABLE INSIGHTS FOR THE DESIGN AND SCHEDULINE OF PRODUCTION SYSTEMS USING SIMILAR MATERIAL HANDLING MECHANISMS.
