AFTER REVIEWING EARLIER WORK BY THE AUTHORS TO ARRIVE AT A CONCEPTUAL DESIGN THROUGH TAXONOMICAL CONSIDERATIONS, THE MAPPING PROCESS INVOLVED IN PRODUCT-PROCESS- AUTOMATION SYSTEM INTERFACE IS ELUCIDATED. DESIGN OF AN AUTOMATED MANUFACTURING SYSTEM FOR WIRE HARNESS FABRICATION IS CONSIDERED FOR THIS CASE STUDY. THE PAPER DISCUSSES SEVERAL ISSUES ENCOUNTERED DURING THE DESIGN SYNTHESIS.
