THE CONFIGURATION OF A MOBILE ROBOT IS A VERY OPEN-ENDED PROBLEM. THE WIDE VARIETY OF EXISTING ROBOT VEHICLES BEARS TESTIMONY TO THE DIFFICULTY OF CONCEIVING AND EXECUTING RATIONAL DESIGNS. IN UNDERTAKING A MOBILE ROBOT PROJECT AT NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, WE HAVE UTILIZED THE KEPNER-TREGOE DECISION ANALYSIS METHOD TO DESIGN A MOBILE ROBOT. AS A RESULT OF USING THIS METHODOLOGY, A LOW-COST RELIABLE MOBILE ROBOT HAS BEEN BUILT.
