This paper introduces key techniques for modeling complex stylistic surfaces by means of lofting (also known as skinning) contour sections with or without guide curves, and illustrates the powerful modeling methods using successful practical modeling cases. The methods are implemented in SolidWorks 97. The paper first presents the algorithm used in SolidWorks software for lofting a set of open or closed contour sections without guide curves. The paper also addresses technical issues related to implementing the algorithms and describes solutions to these issues.
