Orbital abrasive flow machining was developed as a combination of abrasive flow machining (AFM) and orbital grinding to achieve fine polishing using a flexible grinding stone made of semi-solid media. This process is applicable to a wide variety of workpiece geometries. The deformability of the media affects the media behavior, including oscillation and flow, which provides the relative motion between the media abrasive and the workpiece. This greatly influences the polishing characteristics. The aim of this paper is to examine the effects of media deformability on the media behavior under pressure and its effects on the polishing characteristics.
