Modern induction heating power supplies require an effective and informative diagnostic system to satisfy customer's requirements of improved up-time and performance. This has motivated power supply designers to explore into a diagnostic system other than the traditional LED indicators. This alternate system is an interactive, user-friendly microprocessor based system. The objective is to simplify the operation, setup and troubleshooting of the power supplies. This paper presents the design philosophy and operational characteristics of the microprocessor based interface. The Tocco microprocessor based on-board diagnostics are used as the platform for this paper.
