This standard specifies accessibility requirements for registration in existing enterprises for the following four user categories.
– physical impairment;
– visual impairment;
– hearing impairment;
– persons with asthma/allergy.
This standard also provides recommendations so that the enterprise can improve its quality with respect to the four user groups.
Building designs and outdoor areas are regulated by acts and regulations. Obligations stipulated in Government regulations cannot be evaded by making reference to this standard. The Planning and Building Act specifies provisions for a number of important circumstances concerning planning and building. The Act and regulations pursuant thereto stipulate the minimum requirements that must be observed during the planning and construction of buildings.
The standard's normative Annex A is part of the standard and consists of a check-list for the review of enterprises with respect to the requirements. This check-list can be used to survey the enterprise's physical design, adjacent outdoor areas, recreationale and activities.
This standard can be used by all tourist destinations that provide:
– overnight accommodation:
for example, hotels, cabins, motels, rorbu (fisherman's cabins), youth hostels, boarding houses, theme parks with overnight accommodation and food and beverage service, camping sites and self-catering accommodation;
– food and beverage service:
for example, eating places, bars, pubs and nightclubs;
– permanent recreationale facilities:
for example, family and theme parks, sports grounds and venues, museums and exhibitions.
Requirements for the accessibility of recreational areas are not defined in this standard.
