The Directorate of Fire and Explosion Prevention will base an approval for vertical cylindrical tanks for petroleum products for ordinary tank installations, on this standard. The supplier shall have a quality assurance system that satisfies the requirements in NS-ISO 9002 ( = EN 29002). This standard specifies minimum requirements to give supplier, purchaser, user and the society a reasonable guarantee against leakage from storage tanks and equipment. In specifying materials and manufacturing methods, the climatic conditions leading to e.g increased risk of brittle fracture at low temperatures are taken into account. This standard is partly based on other Norwegian and foreign standards and partly on the experience of oil companies, tanksuppliers and the authorities.
