This standard describes the design and application of visual components for use in safety way guidance systems in land-based construction works.
This standard contains general principles that apply to visual safety way guidance systems using electrically powered and photoluminescent components alike. In addition, some special information is provided specific to each system, with emphasis on providing guidance in the choice of materials, design, installation and maintenance of safety way guidance systems.
This standard does not cover risk assessment.
This standard does not include fire safety instructions.
This standard does not apply to the maritime sector or road or railway tunnels, which are covered by separate standards.
This standard does not include safety way guidance systems using tactile and audible components. Nor does it include requirements for general lighting along escape routes, with the exception of lighting that is used to highlight safety equipment or special features of the escape path, such as emergency exit doors and stairs.
