NS 5834 describes the planning process within projects with a requirement for security in the finished building or plant. The standard can be used for both new buildings and refurbishments. The purpose of the standard is to ensure the security of assets against intentional undesirable actions. Assets in this context may be people, the physical environment, functions, processes, material assets, information and reputation. This standard describes an approach to security in the built environment with specific stages and defined security deliverables in each stage. The standard also defines a number of roles that it is recommended to assign so that the security input to the design and construction process has a sufficiently competent foundation.
