This document covers the PMI of alloys that can be identified by x-ray fluorescence (XRF) or optical emission spectroscopy (OES), i.e. alloys with a combination and concentration of elements detectable using the aforementioned methods. This document is intended to be used by companies specifying or performing PMI. This document is applicable to PMI performed at the point of material reception, during the process of fabrication and as part of the final inspection process. The PMI is intended for material grade identification only and is not a substitute for a manufacturer's test report or a laboratory chemical analysis.
