This standard specifies a method for the measurement of vibrations in buildings caused by land-based transport (road traffic and various rail vehicles), together with criteria for evaluating whole-body vibrations in dwellings. This standard is an extension and adaptation of the general criteria for the evaluation of vibrations according to NS-ISO 2631-1:1985 and 2631-2:1994.
The standard does not apply to vibration sources associated with buildings and civil engineering works, industry, blasting, etc. but it does apply to traffic to and from sites for building and civil engineering works.
The standard does not apply to evaluation of damage to buildings and constructions caused by vibrations.
The annexes of this standard also provide guidance about how vibrations from transport affect human beings in dwellings. The standard provides a possibility to demand standardised vibration criteria for buildings in tendering documents, bids, contracts, etc.
