This technical information sheet contains guidelines and quality procedures for both stainless steel and nickel-base weld overlays deposited on the internal surface of batch digesters, continuous digesters, and impregnation vessels, by manual, semi-automatic, or automatic welding processes.
These guidelines are intended to provide the owner with information concerning the properties the overlay must have in order to perform adequately in service.
The scope of work should specify:
The areas to be overlaid.
The surface preparation required.
Any necessary buildup or repair of the wall of the vessel.
The jurisdictional, applicable Codes 1-3 and insurance regulations to be complied with.
The procedure documentation.
Quality measures.
The welding materials to be used.
Any other services.
All welding procedures, welders and welding operators should be qualified in accordance with Section IX of the ASME Code and other jurisdictional requirements.
