This TIP provides guidelines for papermaking machinery designers and mill engineers to adequately support rolling contact bearings used in pulp and paper mills by providing housings of sufficiently rugged construction, effective seal design, and sufficient lubrications. It also lists various failure modes and their possible causes.
There is a lack of standardization of pertinent details in the rolling bearing industry. Therefore the specific details presented in this paper are only typical but not necessarily limiting.
Experienced machinery designers and bearing manufacturers should be consulted in cases which cannot be remedied by this guide.
