In this paper, we will approach the items to consider in sizing parallel shaft reducers for horizontal application only. We also will limit the maximum input speed to 1800 rpm. As a practical consideration, we have assumed that the decision to use gas carburized gearing over through hardened gearing has already been made, thus eliminating the subjective decisions of user preference, availability, and experience factors.
