This Engineering Practice is intended to promote safety through the proper design and installation of
livestock and poultry brooding systems which utilize infrared energy; and to provide guidance for the design
and installation of electrical wiring systems and equipment used primarily for brooding purposes.
This Engineering Practice covers only that equipment and those installations which use 120 V, 250 W or
smaller reflector heat lamps of the R-40 or G-30 type as specified in Illuminating Engineering Society, IES
Lighting Handbook.
