TIA-322

The scope of this Standard is limited to providingengineering criteria to evaluate strength and stability requirements related tothe installation, alteration and maintenance of communication structures, basedon construction loads as defined in a rigging plan prepared in accordance withthe ANSI/ASSE A10.48 standard. Additionally, the scope includes design criteriafor lifting devices and the generation of their load charts. The means andmethods related to construction are not within the scope of this Standard.  This Standard provides criteria based uponboth Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and Allowable Stress Design (ASD)methods.  Figures and drawings in thisStandard are for illustration purposes only and are not intended to representall potential aspects of construction.

ANSI/ASSE 10.48

This standard establishes minimum criteria for safe workpractices and training for personnel performing work on communication structuresincluding antenna and antenna supporting structures, broadcast and othersimilar structures supporting communication related equipment. This standarddoes not address specific work practices or personnel training requirementsinvolving crane applications which are covered explicitly within other ANSI andOSHA standards and regulations. At a minimum, all construction activities oncommunication structures involving cranes shall include direct communicationwith the crane company and/or operator to establish rigging plan requirementsand key designated personnel to ensure individual roles and responsibilitiesare fully understood. At a minimum, designated key personnel, where applicable, shall include the crane operator, signal person, spotter and qualifiedrigger(s) responsible for attaching and detaching the lifted loads from thecrane’s hook. The language in the standard regarding personnel riding the loadline on a base mounted hoist is specific to this standard and does not apply toany other industry or standard.
