This Standard defines a model of the characteristics of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) in the continental United States of America to be used to measure modem transmission performance. The model is intended to be a basis for performance testing of 2-wire modems for use on the PSTN. The model includes specifications for the configuration and setup of suitable simulator equipment to be used in evaluations and comparisons of such modems.
