This procedure establishes the light launch conditions for Class Ia fiber attenuation measurements. Primary uses include FOTP-46, FOTP-53 and FOTP-61.

Either of two methods is allowed. Method A uses overfilled launch conditions along with a mandrel wrap mode filter; Method B uses restricted launch conditions created by beam optics. Both Methods have yielded attenuation values that add approximately linearly in concatenated links.

Values obtained by Methods A and B may not exactly agree, and care must
