This Part describes CS CDPD and the interface between the CM-ES and the CMDIS. Implementation design for the CM-ES and the CMD-IS is beyond the scope of this document.

Each common protocol module in the CM-ES, CMD-IS, and CS-MB is identified. Where necessary, technical references are provided for additional implementation detail. Any deviations from existing standards and any new protocol modules are described in this document.

Connection establishment walkthroughs are provided to aid the reader's understanding of the Circuit Switched CDPD Control Protocol (see Section 230 on page 1024-59).

This document does not currently address the area of Network Management with respect to CS CDPD. Requirements and guidelines regarding Network Management will be included in a future version of this document.

A full understanding of AMPS, SLIP, TCP/IP and the CDPD System Specification R1.1 is assumed.
