This Standard specifies the requirements for distribution (power), control, and signal cables for use aboard commercial ships and mobile offshore drilling units
(MODU's), rated 8000 V maximum, in single or multiconductor construction, with or without metal armour, and with or without an overall jacket.
This Standard may not cover all types, sizes, and voltage ratings of marine shipboard cable that may be required for particular applications.
The performance requirements of this Standard include the performance requirements of IEEE Standard 45-1983.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that
involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined
necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
