These requirements cover valve equipment intended for installation in piping systems to supply wate r automatically to dry pipe, deluge, and preaction sprinkler
systems for fire-protection service.
Valves covered by these requirements may be a differential type, latched-clapper type, low-differential type, or a combination of these types.
The valves covered by these requirements are intended for installation and use in accordance with the Standard for the Insta llation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13;
and the Standard for Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fir e Protection, NFPA 15.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that
involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined
necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
