The requirements of this Standard cover molded case circuit breakers, circuit breaker and ground-fault circuit-interrupters, fused circuit breakers, and accessory high-fault protectors. These circuit breakers are specifically intended to provide service entrance, f eeder, and branch circuit protection in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. This Standard also covers instantaneous-trip circuit breakers (circui t interrupters) specifically intended for use as part of a combination motor controller in accordance with the National Electrical Code.

This Standard covers molded case switches and fused molded case switches.

This Standard covers devices rated at 600 volts or less and 6000 amperes or less.

The devices referenced in 1.1 and 1.2 are intended for installation in an overall enclosure or as parts of other devices such as panelboards. The acceptability of the combination will be determined when th e complete product is investigated.

This Standard covers circuit breaker enclosures and accessory d evices intended for use with the devices described in 1.1 and 1.2.

This Standard does not cover low voltage power circuit breakers covered in ANSI/IEEE C37.13-1990, In Enclosures, Low-Voltage AC Power Circuit Breakers Used, and ANSI/IEEE C37.14-1993, Low-Voltage DC Power Circuit Breakers Used In Enclosures, or supplementary protectors covered by the Standard for Supplementary Protectors for Use in Electrical Equipment, UL 1077.

This Standard contains supplements covering the requirements for molded case circuit breakers for:

a) Marine Use
b) Naval Use
c) Uninterruptible Power Supply Use
d) Classified Circuit Breakers

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and e nd-product requirements as determined necessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
