This guideline deals only with defects that are caused by processing (injection moulding). It also addresses processing defects that can lead to failure under critical operating conditions. This guideline describes the processing quality of components and presents defects and causes of failure that result from processing; it is intended to serve as a guide for failure analysts.
The quality of thermoplastic components is influenced during processing by numerous parameters, and each of these parameters can cause or promote a defect. The processing defects found by the analyst shall be assessed according to their relevance and the role they played in causing the failure.
