This standard deals exclusively with hot water heating systems in single-family and multi-family houses which are to be operated or are being operated with heat pumps.

The specific features to be considered for domestic hot water heating are the contents of the training courses. The work involved in servicing such systems will not be dealt with at this point.

The standard provides a concept for training courses, examinations, and certificates to be obtained (hereinafter referred to as “training”) with which specialists who are involved in planning, construction, and operation of such systems can be further trained to become “Experts for Heat Pump Systems as per VDI 4645”. The aim of the training courses is the avoidance of malfunctions, operational disturbances, or damage as well as the optimisation of heat pump systems.

The standard applies to the training of specialists of the categories described below “Constructors (E)”, “Planners (P)”, as well as “Planners and constructors (PE)” for heating systems intended to be operated or being operated with electrically driven heat pumps and related heat source units.

The focus of the training concept is on the standard VDI 4645. Within the scope of the traineeship the standards VDI 4640 Part 2 und VDI 4650 Part 1 are referred to.
