This document describes a standardised method with which the metrological properties of the axial spindle deviation of a form measuring instrument can be determined and documented in situ through axial run-out measurements. This method is suitable both for acceptance tests (testing the form measuring instrument in accordance with the manufacturer's data) and for monitoring the measurement stability of form measuring instruments (see VDI/VDE 2631 Part 8). The measurement result is influenced by sitespecific effects and by those arising from the measured object and the instrumentation; differentiating between the contributions of these effects is either impossible or possible only to a limited degree. Documenting the measurement result allows the actual state and any changes in the metrological properties of the form measuring instrument to be determined in situ. Inter alia, changes due e.g. to variable ambient conditions (climatic effects, excited oscillations, etc.) can be rapidly and easily detected, and steps taken to improve the measurement conditions or to rectify errors. The following can be determined, inter alia:
• magnitude of the axial spindle deviation
• nature of the axial spindle deviation (e.g. direction, characteristics)
• interference, as caused usually by dirt or defects
The following cannot be determined, inter alia:
• the instrument's sensitivity (signal transmission)
• the instrument's filter properties
• the causes of interference
This standard applies in conjunction with VDI/VDE 2631 Part 1.
