In recent years, in recognition of the important part that thermal fatigue plays in high-temperature applications, investigations have been sponsored by a number of agencies. Such investigations are generally done for special purposes with some selected materials under certain specific conditions. In this early stage of the art, the results have been sometimes controversial and even contradictory. It is the purpose of this review to appraise significant results that have appeared in technical journals and published reports.
