Recent software developments are providing the tools to integrate information systems and network management functions. These are highly complementary applications that can operate synergistically. This paper presents a comprehensive state of the art review of current and emerging computer technologies for use in the effective management of water distribution system activities and offers observations on their specific needs, applications, benefits, and limitations. In addition, an innovative procedure for integrating common network analysis software with data sources residing on a variety of platforms is discussed and conclusions are stated. The method is predicted on the open system architecture design and embraces a multi-level object orientated integrations approach. The results should prove useful to any water utility attempting to enhance their distribution system operation, performance and improved cost savings.
