Purpose

This document sets forth the basic requirements for an automatic throttle system (ATS) Specifically designed for installation in commercial transport type aircraft. This system will provide automatic control of throttles during approach and landing. The system may, at the manufacturer's option, provide outputs to operate pilots' displays for manual control of throttles (speed) and/or pitch during approach and take-off/go-around modes respectively. The ATS may also be used for maneuvering and holding up to the speed limit capabilities of the system.

This document is intended to provide design guidance for the development and installation of an automatic throttle control system primarily intended for airline use. As such, this guidance will include the specific requirements necessary to provide the operational capability and standardization of equipment and installations
