UGIMA 4401 (UGIMA 316) is identical to UGINE 4401 (AISI 316) in analysis, corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and forging and welding abilities but dissimilar in machinability. A specific melting process creates inclusions (malleable oxides with a low melting point), which improve machinability by 20-30% compared with an AISI 316 (1.4401) stainless steel.
