ELECTRITE No. 1 is a standard 18.4-1 type high-speed steel having high density, extremely good wear resisting properties. It possesses a high red hardness when used for cutting and shearing tools. It corresponds to AISI Type T1 Tool Steel. This same type steel is also supplied containing sulphide additive and is called Electrite No. 1 XL. This steel has exactly the same analysis as regular Electrite No. 1 except that alloy sulphides have been added. These additives impart a self-lubricated property to the steel, which results in improved machinability and improved tool life on many applications. These additives do not impair tool performance in any way not do they change heat treating characteristics or mechanical properties.
