This Technical Report presents the results of an investigation into the feasibility of algorithms to determine the presence of load coils on metallic pairs assigned to digital subscriber lines and transport technologies such as ISDN, HDSL, ADSL, DOV, DLC, etc. Two algorithms are described in this Report, the Loss Measurement Algorithm (LMA) and the Driving Point Impedance (DPI) Algorithm. The Report also describes a canonical set of loops that are designed to stress the accuracy of the above algorithms. The algorithms are expected to perform over these loops to positively determine the presence of load coils.
