This specification prescribes requirements for the classification of low-alloy steel electrodes for flux cored arc welding (FCAW). Metal cored low-alloy steel electrodes are classified according to ANSI/AWS A5.28-96, Specification for Low-Alloy Steel Filler Metals for Gas Shielded Arc Welding.(Footnote 1) Iron is the only element whose content exceeds 10.5 percent in weld metal produced using electrodes classified by this document.
