As monopoly utilities continue to transform themselves into efficient business-driven entities, the workforce is becoming more diverse. By 2010, about half of the workforce will have shifted from predominantly white male to predominantly women of various ethnic backgrounds--in rural as well as urban areas. This significant shift will cause major cultural challenges in the workplace. This paper discusses the consequences of the changing workforce along with the solution, which places an emphasis on training and development. Includes figures.
