This slide presentation outlines information on the impact that the Endangered Species Act is having on water allocation planning in Florida. As Florida continues to grow and suffer through
periodic drought, it is facing water allocation decisions based upon
water shortage. Because Florida has one of the highest number of listed
species, public and private actions often invoke Section 7 of the
Endangered Species Act. In the last couple of years water allocation
decisions by public agencies have invoked ESA jurisdiction as the fate
of rare species is potentially determined by timing and quantity of water
delivery systems.
