This paper gives an overview of AWWA's current effort to rewrite its Manual of Practice publication, M36, Water Audits and Leak Detection. The
goals of this project are to provide user-friendly instructions to compile an International Water Association/American Water Works Association (IWA/AWWA)
water audit, launch a loss control program and promote standardization for better water
resources management. It is hoped that this publication will reach a wide circulation of
drinking water utilities, regulators, consultants, environmentalists and academia; and promote
effective water loss control needed to attain water sustainability for the future. Includes 7 references, figures.
