This slide presentation outlines information on water quality in the Wanaque Water System. Three challenges are discussed and include: high nutrient loadings in
source waters lead to frequent
algal bloom in the reservoir,
taste and odor episodes, and
high cost in water treatment; northern New Jersey vulnerability to drought; and, accelerated increase in
population will cause water demand to exceed
allocation before 2020. The five parts of the water quality management program are discussed and include:
comprehensive
source water
sampling;
real-time
continuous
water quality
monitoring;
algae growth
control;
watershed
land
preservation and
fremove or reduce
nutrient load from
source water. Further topics discussed include: improving water supply reliability; additional dependable supply; and benefits of systematic implementations.
