The study objectives of this slide presentation include: identify state of the art in water monitoring technologies; assess emerging water monitoring technologies with the potential for practical application within 5 years; and, identify the critical shortfalls that are not addressed by the existing and emerging water monitoring technologies. The approach included: determine if monitoring technologies can detect evaluated contaminants; evaluate remote installation of these technologies in the distribution system; develop expected capital and operating costs for the monitoring equipment; perform a cost-benefit evaluation to determine which monitoring technologies are most cost effective; and, develop recommendations and identify gaps.
