This study illustrates the methods used to investigate pitting and pinhole leaks in a community distribution system. Specifically, this study focused on the copper plumbing of seven homes in an Ohio water distribution system. Solids collected from sampled pipes were analyzed using a variety of techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and theta-theta diffractometer.
