The City of Kennewick's Water Filtration Plant (WFP) treats water from the Columbia River. The WFP Improvements Project converted the seasonally used 7.5-mgd conventional treatment plant to a 15-mgd membrane treatment plant for year-round water production. The WFP Improvements Project was constructed in three phases, with construction occurring in the winter season when the WFP was not in service. Each construction phase included startup, operator training, and modification of operating strategies to accommodate new systems, chemicals, and reporting requirements to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). This poster paper focuses on the operating strategies, procedures, and activities associated with the major process changes required when integrating submerged membrane technology into a conventional water treatment plant. Includes tables, figures.
