This powerpoint presentation looks at bio- and nano-technologies for water treatment. The presentation first provides background information on bio- and nano-technologies, and then outlines prospective materials for the two technologies that includes: quantum dots; nanoparticles; sensors; microfabricated sensors; carbon nanotubes; Nano Zero-Valent Metal Iron (NZVM); nanotoxicity; and, microbial fuel cells. The second part of the presentation takes a look at the environmental nano- and molecular bio-technologies from the standpoint of: synthesis, characterization, and bioconjugation of NPs; optical and electrochemical detection; monitoring for human health risks of micropollutants, E. coli, and toxin producing algae monitoring; bioelectrochemical H2, bioelectrochemical cell (BEC), and photoelectrochemical H2 production; anaerobic fermentation; and, environmental NPs application (groundwater). Challenges include:
safety concerns about
the truth behind the facts of nanoparticles;
system engineering related to
nano and biotechnology for environmental technology;
highly interdisciplinary nature of nanobio and
environmental technology; and, a
new class of nano-measurement requirements that enable a
massive, easy, and quick detection and identification of
nano-target. Includes figures.
