This powerpoint presentation begins by providing project drivers for an automated meter reading initiative for the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. They include:
current handheld system used by meter readers was
failing;
new legislation required individual meters for multi-family
dwellings, apartments, trailer parks, etc.;
city's meter (water and gas) infrastructure was already
being considered for a significant upgrade due to age;
meter estimates were increasing;
theft of service issues;
budget issues required a significant permanent decrease
in cost over the long term; and,
safety issues due to dog bites, jumping fences, etc. The goal of the initiative was
to find a system that would be cost efficient,
more effective and safer than the current manual
system. The automated solutions that were
evaluated were the
Mobile Radio Frequency (RF) AMR and the Fixed Network (FN) AMR. Project benefits are listed, along with project components, project partners, estimated project costs, and PSION Teklogix
Data Collection Terminal.
